WHAT TO EXPECT

We want you to feel comfortable with the decision of joining our practice. Please read the information below. If you have any questions, please call our office for an answer.

New Patient Intake Forms

If necessary, new patient intake forms may be needed so it is suggested to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your 1st appointment scheduled time.

Consultation with the Chiropractor

You will have a direct one-on-one consultation with the doctor to discuss your health concerns and the reason for your visit, along with any prior medical history.

Examination

At the conclusion of the initial health consultation, we will perform a complete and comprehensive neurological, orthopedic and chiropractic exam.

X-Rays

A series of X-rays may be needed to allow us to clearly determine a proper care plan. X-rays provide us with an objective diagnostic tool that will show us the position of the spinal bones, as well as the quality of the spine and safety of adjusting it. We also use X-rays to determine how long a spinal condition has been developing.

Report of Findings

The Doctor's report of findings will be scheduled  after your Initial Visit. This will allow for your doctor to study your exam findings, along with your X-ray information at which point we will share the results that we found with you. You may invite anyone in your family to accompany you, if you choose. Your report of findings includes a detailed analysis of what you need in order to solve the problem that brought you into our office and what can be done in order to assure that it won't happen again. We consider your current lifestyle choices, goals for the future and challenges that are standing in your way. This is why our recommendations are extremely comprehensive and have the chance to be the solution that you have been seeking to find.

Ongoing

We strive to keep waiting times to a minimum, so we ask that all patients be prompt for their appointments so we can stay on track. Your adjustments will be given by the doctor, then anything else done during that visit will depend on the doctor's recommendations. Traction, Stretching, exercise instruction, or other advice, may be as part of the doctor's plan for you. Questions are encouraged! We want you full of knowledge!

We consistently update and customize your wellness programs. The foundation for our overall health is based on proper spinal alignment, nutritious foods, regular exercise, high quality supplementation and a variety of stress relief techniques for the whole family.

Most of our clients decide to stay on for Wellness care once their pain or symptoms have subsided because we feel the benefit of our care is exponential once you are nearing a state of health! That is why we have experienced wonderful results in the Sports, Pediatric and Prenatal community.

  • Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition characterized by inflammation and narrowing of the airways, leading to breathing difficulties, wheezing, and coughing.

Adjustments to the spine can positively affect the nervous system, leading to improved immune function and respiratory function.

  • Spinal adjustments can enhance nervous system function and, in turn, improve immune system responses. Removing interference from the nervous system can create a more balanced immune response.

  • Dr. Billups uses hands-on techniques to perform spinal adjustments or manipulations. These adjustments aim to realign the vertebrae in the spine, reduce joint restrictions, and improve overall spinal function. By doing so, they may help relieve pressure on nerves and reduce pain.

Dr. Billups also uses mobilization techniques that involve gentle stretches and movements to improve joint mobility, reduce stiffness, and ease muscle tension in the back and neck.

  • Dr. Billups uses spinal adjustments or manipulations to realign the vertebrae in the spine. By applying controlled force to the affected area, we aim to reduce pressure on the discs and nerves, potentially providing relief from pain and discomfort.

We may also use techniques such as spinal decompression therapy, where traction forces are applied to the spine to create negative pressure, promoting the retraction of herniated or bulging discs. This can help relieve pressure on nerves and reduce pain associated with disc issues.

  • Colic is a condition in infants characterized by excessive crying and fussiness, typically occurring in the first few months of life. It is considered a self-limiting condition, meaning it tends to resolve on its own with time. However, chiropractic care can help colic tremendously. Dr. Billups works with infant patients and uses gentle techniques to address any potential musculoskeletal issues that could contribute to discomfort or irritability.

  • Spinal adjustments can enhance nervous system function and potentially improve the body's ability to fight off infections.

Removing interference from the nervous system can promote better communication between the brain and the immune system.

  • Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterized by pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint. It occurs when the capsule of connective tissue surrounding the shoulder joint becomes thickened and tight, limiting the joint's range of motion. Dr. Billups incorporates certain techniques to help manage symptoms and improve shoulder mobility.

  • Chiropractic care can play a role in helping manage headaches and migraines, particularly those that are related to tension in the neck and upper back, or due to musculoskeletal issues. Chiropractic care focuses on the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine, and its impact on overall health.

Dr. Billups uses spinal adjustments or manipulations to realign the vertebrae in the spine. Misalignments, also known as subluxations, may cause tension in the surrounding muscles and nerves, potentially contributing to headaches and migraines. By applying controlled force to specific areas of the spine, we aim to reduce the tension and improve nerve function.

  • Chiropractic care can be beneficial during pregnancy, both for prenatal care and perinatal support. Dr. Billups specializes in prenatal and perinatal care and can help pregnant individuals manage various musculoskeletal issues, discomforts, and promote overall well-being. Here are some ways Dr. Billups can assist during pregnancy:

1: Pain relief: As the body undergoes changes during pregnancy, it can lead to musculoskeletal discomfort, particularly in the lower back, hips, and pelvis. Chiropractic adjustments can help relieve pain and tension in these areas, improving overall comfort during pregnancy.

2: Pelvic alignment: Chiropractors can perform gentle pelvic adjustments to ensure proper alignment of the pelvis. This may help optimize the space for the developing baby, reduce the risk of intrauterine constraint, and potentially aid in an easier delivery.

3: Postural support: Pregnancy can impact posture, leading to changes in the curvature of the spine and increased stress on certain areas. Chiropractors can offer guidance on maintaining proper posture to reduce strain on the spine and promote better alignment.

4: Sciatica relief: Chiropractic care can help alleviate sciatic nerve pain, which can be common during pregnancy due to increased pressure on the lower back and pelvis.

5: Preparation for labor and delivery: Chiropractic care during pregnancy may help promote optimal pelvic alignment, potentially reducing the risk of complications during labor and delivery.

6: Webster technique: The Webster technique is a specific chiropractic technique designed to address pelvic imbalances and facilitate proper fetal positioning. It aims to create a more balanced and relaxed environment for the baby, potentially reducing the risk of breech presentations.

7: Postpartum care: Chiropractors can continue to provide care and support during the postpartum period, helping the body recover from the physical demands of childbirth.

  • Chiropractors can play a significant role in helping manage sciatica, a condition characterized by pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, typically from the lower back down through the buttock and leg. Sciatica is often caused by compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve, and chiropractic care can be effective in addressing the underlying musculoskeletal issues contributing to the condition.

  • Chiropractors can play a supportive role in managing scoliosis, a condition characterized by an abnormal curvature of the spine. While chiropractic care cannot cure scoliosis or reverse the curvature, it can help improve spinal mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall quality of life for individuals with scoliosis.

  • Chiropractors can play a role in helping manage sprains and strains, which are common musculoskeletal injuries that involve damage to ligaments (sprains) or muscles/tendons (strains). Chiropractic care focuses on the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine, and its impact on overall health. Here's how a chiropractor can help with sprains and strains:

Evaluation and diagnosis: Chiropractors will conduct a thorough evaluation to assess the extent of the injury and determine the specific structures involved. They may use physical exams, imaging, and other diagnostic tools to make an accurate diagnosis.

Pain relief: Chiropractors can provide pain relief through various techniques, including spinal adjustments, mobilization, and soft tissue therapies. These treatments aim to reduce inflammation, muscle spasms, and discomfort associated with the injury.

Joint alignment: For sprains and strains that affect the spine or other joints, chiropractic adjustments can help restore proper joint alignment. This can enhance healing, reduce strain on affected tissues, and promote better function.

Soft tissue therapies: Chiropractors may use soft tissue techniques such as massage, myofascial release, and stretching to help relax and rehabilitate injured muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

Exercise and rehabilitation: Chiropractors can recommend specific exercises and stretches to help strengthen the injured area, improve flexibility, and support the healing process.

Posture and lifestyle advice: Chiropractors can offer guidance on maintaining proper posture and ergonomics, which can help prevent further injury and promote better healing.

Preventive care: Chiropractors may provide advice on preventing future sprains and strains by addressing any underlying factors that contribute to the injuries, such as weak muscles or improper movement patterns.

  • Chiropractic care may be considered as a complementary approach to help with sinus issues, particularly those related to musculoskeletal factors and nervous system function. While chiropractic care cannot directly treat sinus infections or allergies, it aims to promote overall well-being and may have indirect effects on sinus health. Here's how chiropractic care can potentially help with sinus issues:

1: Spinal adjustments: Chiropractors use spinal adjustments or manipulations to realign the vertebrae in the spine. Some proponents of chiropractic care believe that misalignments in the upper spine, particularly the cervical (neck) region, can interfere with nerve function and lymphatic drainage, potentially affecting sinus health. By restoring proper alignment, chiropractic adjustments may help improve nervous system function, which, in turn, may have positive effects on sinus health.

2: Lymphatic drainage: Chiropractic techniques may aim to promote lymphatic drainage, which is crucial for removing waste products and toxins from the body, including the sinuses. By enhancing lymphatic flow, chiropractors may support the body's natural ability to clear sinus congestion and reduce inflammation.

3: Posture improvement: Poor posture can contribute to tension and tightness in the neck and shoulder muscles, potentially affecting sinus health. Chiropractors can offer guidance on maintaining proper posture, which may help reduce tension in these areas and promote better sinus drainage.

4: Stress reduction: Chiropractic care can be beneficial for managing stress, which can impact the immune system and exacerbate sinus issues. By reducing stress and promoting relaxation, chiropractic care may indirectly support the body's ability to cope with sinus-related problems.

  • Chiropractic care can play a supportive role in managing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders or dysfunctions, which affect the jaw joint and surrounding muscles. While chiropractic care cannot directly cure TMJ issues, it aims to address musculoskeletal factors that may contribute to TMJ pain and discomfort. Here's how chiropractic care can potentially help with TMJ:

Spinal and neck adjustments: Chiropractors may perform gentle spinal and neck adjustments to realign the vertebrae in the spine and alleviate tension in the neck muscles. Proper alignment can help reduce stress on the jaw joint and improve overall neck and jaw function.

Jaw joint manipulation: Chiropractors who have specific training and experience in TMJ disorders may use targeted techniques to adjust the jaw joint. This can help reduce joint restrictions, alleviate pain, and improve jaw mobility.

Soft tissue therapies: Chiropractors may use soft tissue techniques such as massage, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release to address muscle tension and tightness in the jaw, face, and neck. This can help relax the muscles surrounding the TMJ and promote better jaw function.

Posture correction: Chiropractors can provide guidance on maintaining proper posture, which can help reduce strain on the jaw and neck muscles and may have positive effects on TMJ health.

Lifestyle modifications: Chiropractors may offer recommendations on lifestyle changes, such as diet modifications (e.g., avoiding hard or chewy foods) and stress management techniques, to help manage TMJ-related symptoms.

TMJ exercises: Chiropractors can suggest specific jaw exercises to improve jaw mobility, strengthen the jaw muscles, and reduce pain.

  • Chiropractic care may offer some help for certain types of vertigo, particularly when it is caused by musculoskeletal issues affecting the neck and spine. Vertigo is a sensation of dizziness or spinning, often accompanied by balance problems. While chiropractic care cannot treat all causes of vertigo, it may be beneficial in cases where the vertigo is related to problems in the cervical spine (neck) or related structures.

Here's how chiropractic care can potentially help with vertigo:

Spinal adjustments: Chiropractors use spinal adjustments or manipulations to realign the vertebrae in the spine. Misalignments in the cervical spine can affect nerve function and blood flow, potentially contributing to vertigo. By correcting these misalignments, chiropractors aim to improve nerve communication and blood circulation, which may help reduce vertigo symptoms.

Epley maneuver: In some cases of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), a specific type of vertigo caused by dislodged particles in the inner ear, chiropractors may perform the Epley maneuver. This procedure involves specific head and body movements to reposition the particles, alleviating vertigo symptoms.

Vestibular rehabilitation exercises: Chiropractors may recommend specific vestibular rehabilitation exercises to help improve balance and reduce symptoms of vertigo. These exercises are designed to train the brain to compensate for the inner ear's dysfunction and promote better balance.

Posture and lifestyle advice: Chiropractors can provide guidance on maintaining proper posture and making lifestyle changes that may help reduce vertigo triggers.

  • Chiropractic care can be beneficial in the management of whiplash, which is a common injury that occurs due to a sudden, forceful back-and-forth movement of the neck, often seen in car accidents. Whiplash can cause damage to the soft tissues, ligaments, muscles, and joints in the neck and upper back, leading to pain and reduced mobility. Here's how chiropractic care can potentially help with whiplash:

Pain relief: Chiropractors can provide pain relief through various techniques, including spinal adjustments, mobilization, and soft tissue therapies. These treatments aim to reduce inflammation, muscle spasms, and discomfort associated with whiplash.

Restoring range of motion: Whiplash can lead to decreased range of motion in the neck and upper back. Chiropractic adjustments can help restore proper joint function and improve flexibility.

Addressing joint dysfunction: Chiropractors will assess for any joint dysfunction or misalignment in the spine caused by the whiplash injury. Specific chiropractic adjustments can help realign the vertebrae, reducing pressure on nerves and promoting healing.

Soft tissue therapies: Chiropractors may use soft tissue techniques such as massage, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release to address muscle tension and tightness in the neck and upper back, common issues following whiplash.

Exercises and stretches: Chiropractors may recommend specific exercises and stretches to strengthen the muscles and improve flexibility in the affected areas, promoting better support for the neck and back.

Posture correction: Chiropractors can provide guidance on maintaining proper posture, which can help reduce strain on the neck and upper back and promote healing.

Preventing long-term issues: Early chiropractic care can help prevent chronic issues that may arise from untreated whiplash injuries. Addressing the injury promptly can lead to a faster recovery and reduce the risk of long-term complications.

  • Chiropractors can play a crucial role in helping individuals recover from injuries sustained in car accidents. Motor vehicle accidents can lead to various musculoskeletal injuries, including whiplash, neck pain, back pain, and joint injuries. Chiropractic care focuses on the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine, and its impact on overall health. Here's how a chiropractor can help with car accidents:

Assessment and diagnosis: Chiropractors will conduct a thorough evaluation to assess the extent of the injuries and make an accurate diagnosis. They may use physical exams, imaging, and other diagnostic tools to understand the nature and severity of the injuries.

Pain relief: Chiropractors can provide pain relief through various techniques, including spinal adjustments, mobilization, and soft tissue therapies. These treatments aim to reduce inflammation, muscle spasms, and discomfort associated with the injuries.

Restoring mobility and function: Chiropractic adjustments can help restore proper joint function and improve flexibility, promoting better mobility and overall function.

Soft tissue therapies: Chiropractors may use soft tissue techniques such as massage, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release to address muscle tension and tightness around the injured areas.

Rehabilitation exercises: Chiropractors may recommend specific exercises to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and support the healing process.

Posture and lifestyle advice: Chiropractors can offer guidance on maintaining proper posture and making lifestyle changes that may aid in recovery and prevent future injuries.

Collaborative care: Chiropractors often work in conjunction with other healthcare providers, such as physical therapists or orthopedic specialists, to provide comprehensive care for individuals involved in car accidents.
